USES

The Research oriented Scholastic Experience (RoSE) is a virtual research program designed to introduce high-achievers to the world of original research. This Interdisciplinary, Collaborative, and Future-Focused work aims to provide transformational research experiences to these high-achieving students.

Rapid development in science and technology has necessitated changes in current pedagogical models through a paradigm shift. Lately, there has been a renewed emphasis on skills beyond the school curriculum. While school curricula help students learn fundamental skills in math and sciences, their critical application in solving real-world problems remains unexplored. This is evidenced when students seek higher education and find themselves poorly equipped with the 21st-century skillset needed for their success.

Many studies have undoubtedly demonstrated the critical role of these skills beyond the traditionally confined curriculum. RoSE initiative is the outcome of years of academic insight gained through careful observation of student success and perseverance. The purpose of the RoSE program is to equip the students with much-needed skills spanning across multiple disciplines so that they will be successful in their chosen profession.

In addition to scientific research, the RoSE program strives to introduce participants to the climate and culture of scientific temperament, critical thinking, information synthesis, and interpretation.

The theme for the 2024 cycle is Data Analysis: Shaping the Next Generation of Scientists, Engineers, and Entrepreneurs.

At the end of four weeks, the students will be able to:

  1. Analyze, synthesize, and draw interpretation from data analysis using mathematical skills.

  2. Develop models to generalize the observed trends in data.

  3. Gather data available in the public domain.

  4. Develop skills aimed at data plotting, simulation, and visualization.

  5. Gain experience in the formulation and analysis of emerging and contemporary research topics.

  6. Disseminate the results through a poster presentation or technical blog.

  7. Get a head start on higher education.

  8. Enhance their US/UK college/internship applications

The program is open to:

  • Students who are currently enrolled in Grade 11 or Grade 12.

  • Students who have recently completed Grade 12 and are waiting to start the undergraduate degree.

Program format and dates are as follows

Program format:

  • This is a four-week online (synchronous) immersive learning experience focused on research skills development.
  • The program emphasizes data interpretation, synthesis, inferences, and dissemination.
  • Students will learn to apply essential mathematical tools to model patterns observed in real-world data, such as climate change, population dynamics, pollutant transport, economic indicators and other emerging applications.
  • A multidisciplinary approach will be emphasized to enhance skills and provide a pathway for academic success.

Program dates:

  • Online instruction will be synchronous.
  • Classes will be for two hours daily (three days a week) for four weeks.
  • We offer this program six times a year. In the application form, you can select the session that best fits your schedule. The session start dates will be finalized after mutual consultations to accommodate your needs and availability.
  • Students will work on multiple assignments and a project.
